Gorur

By:- Pradeep Srinivas

Gorur is a small hamlet downstream of the Hemavathi Dam (built on the Hemavathi River).  Gorur is around 30 km (20 miles) away from Hassan.  The deity at Gorur is Yoga Narasimhar.  The most famous personality that has come out of Gorur is, of course, Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar.

Grama (Shantigrama)

Halthore

Hampapur

Haravu

By: Haravu Lakshminarasimh Jayaram

This is a village close to Pandavpura. My forefathers lived there. The last I know for certain is that my great grandfather (on my father's side) and my grandfather lived there. My grandfather, who went to college in the late 1890's or early 1900's decided to leave the village to pursue a career in Chennai (then Madras) as this was the biggest city in the south. He then migrated to Hyderabad and brought with him his father and others from the village. My grand father decided to adopt the name of the village as his surname and the generations following him have kept up the tradition, although the name Haravu sounds strange to many Indians who misspell the name very badly.

I have visited the village 3 or 4 times and was impressed with its cleanliness and fertile soil and relatively well off citizenry, apparently because farming has been quite successful. Even the children of farm labour seem to be quite well fed and happy. There is a small primary school which I visited and liked.

Hassan

This Last name has been Obvious choice, but very few iyengar families have this. Some South Canara (Tuluva Brahmins) that converted to MadhavaCharya's Philosphy and migrated there (from Nuggehalli) have this last name.

Kedda

  By: Raj Kedda

It came from Kedda operations. My great grandfather's name is Tatachar Kedda, who developed a technique of hunting and that was called Kedda operations. He was the owner of the technique and operations. From what I am told, Mysore Maharaja declared that as unique and he(Tatachar) was mostly known by that name. My grandfather's name is ShyamIyengar Kedda. My forefather portraits are in Nagorhole Museum and it was also published in Time magazine in 1994. My great grandfather at one time, owned the town of Sulekere. This was a gift from Maharaja to my grandfather. This is from bits and pieces from folks. I dont have beyond that and if others know more, would be happy to hear and learn.
