Hebbar Iyengar is attributed to a Group of Karnataka Srivaishnavites

Sri CheluvaNarayana Swamy

It is generally accepted that Srivaishnavism in Karnataka (Mysore State) Came into being when the Great SriVaishnava Acharya -

Sri RamanujaAcharya settled in Thondanur / Thirunarayanapuram

(Melkote - Mandya District) for more than 20 Years.

Lot of his deciples had also followed him to Melkote.

The Local Brahmins of the area had converted to SriVaishnavism during that time.

Sri RamanujaAcharya affectionately called them "hebbu haaruva" meaning Big Brahmins.

In Wikipedia Page explanation is:

The etymology of Hebbar, in Kannada, resolves to "hebbu/hiridhu" (meaning big) + "haaruva" (meaning brahmin). This is generally accepted.

We would like to hear more about this from some one that has actually done some research or knows it from their fore fathers.

We have Nothing to do with Hebbar Srivaishnava Sabha, Bengaluru. We are there just to help our community freely.
