Some People find it very convenient to Give Away/Donate items to a Vadyar during times of ThiruVidhyanam
or even during the Monthly Ceremony (Masikam), when some beloved family member passes away.

This is a substitute for doing the ceremony itself and Daanam is preferred. The items given away are Uncooked.

The following items are usually given away:

1. One Cup Rice.
2. One Cup Toor Dal
3. One Cup Moong Dal
4. Vegetables: Bittergourd (Hagalkai/Karela), Raw plaintain (Balekai), Brinjal (Kathrikai/Badnekai), Okra (Bendekai), Sweet Potato (Gensu)
5. Little Tamarind (Hunsehanu)
6. Little Jaggery (Bella)
7. Salt and Pepper

Most Important is Dakshina (Cash) should also accompany the Daanam.

Some people give to any brahmin if the priest is not available but be careful and avoid this as not all Brahmin will accept.

Leftover Vegetables: You may cook it at home and use it for home and have it with family members per ThiruVidhyanam style.
